Create a new space industry base in Kochi Prefecture!
Spaceport Kochi is established to aim for rocket launch in 2029

On February 3, 2025, Spaceport Kochi (Representative Director: Furuya Bunpei) was established, and a project aimed at creating a new hub for the space industry in Kochi Prefecture was launched in earnest. The goal is to achieve a rocket launch in 2029 and become Asia's largest space gateway .

Background and purpose of the establishment of Spaceport Kochi

Japan's space industry is experiencing rapid growth, with the market size expected to reach approximately 150 trillion yen by 2040. However, at present, the shortage of space transport (rockets) is considered a challenge. Therefore, Spaceport Kochi, a general incorporated association, will contribute to solving these issues by opening Spaceport, a take-off and landing site for rockets and spacecrafts in Kochi Prefecture.

Kochi Prefecture faces the Pacific Ocean and has geographical characteristics that are ideal for space transport, making it an ideal location for opening a Spaceport. If this project were to be realized, it would support the growth of the space industry and contribute significantly to the revitalization of Kochi Prefecture's local economy.

Activities begin in full force from March 2025

Starting in March 2025, we will begin full-scale activities while recruiting members. We will hold regular study sessions with experts on space business, rockets and space ports to inspire deeper into the possibilities of space ports in Kochi Prefecture.

In addition, within 2025, we will make policy recommendations to the Kochi Prefectural Government Office and establish a cooperative system to promote the space industry. This will create a stepping stone towards realizing Spaceport early.

Introduction of the CEO and founder

Furuya Bunpei (Representative Director and Initiator)
Born in Kochi Prefecture. After graduating from the Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Tokyo, he worked in African business at Toyota Tsusho Co., Ltd. After returning home, he established Kochi Sunrise Hotel management and shared office BASE CAMP IN KOCHI, and has been involved in space-related businesses.

Komatsu Seiji (initiator)
is from Kochi Prefecture. After studying physics, he worked in the design and development of spacecraft. Using my experience at Mitsubishi Electric and Ispace, I work on space-related businesses.
