Self-homage to 2018’s “Blue Rose” – Focus on new expressiveness

The "Blue Rose" set used for the cover shoot of "AERA" magazine in 2018, when Yuzuru Hanyu and Mika Ninagawa first teamed up, has been recreated in this work. This work allows you to enjoy the contrast between the delicate facial expressions that Hanyu showed when he was 23 years old at the time, and the mature expressiveness he has now at the age of 30. Mika Ninagawa says the following.

``It's been 6 years since I photographed Mr. Hanyu for the first time.This is the fifth time I've photographed him for the photo book ``Tai''. This is the set I used. Because I used the same set, I was able to create a photo that more clearly shows the great expressiveness that Mr. Hanyu has acquired over the past six years. I’m really looking forward to it.”

``The sets that Mika prepares have a mysterious power that allows you to immediately enter the world view.When Mika suggested that we would like to recreate the blue rose, we said, ``If we are going to make a book, we should make a good one.'' I thought, ``Maybe it would be more interesting to focus on the facial expressions of the photographers,'' but as I was facing Mika's shutter, I gradually found myself enjoying the completely different expressions of the same situations. Yuzuru Hanyu turned 30 on December 7th of this year. The background to the production of ``Yuzuru Hanyu Photobook Tai'' was the desire to compile into one book the expressions of Hanyu in his 20s that Mika Ninagawa had captured so far. While discussing the composition of the photo book, Mika came up with the idea, ``If the current Mr. Hanyu were included in the 2018 Blue Rose set, what kind of expression would he create?'' It was an idea that I had never imagined, but from the moment I heard about it, I was convinced that if it were to become a reality, it would definitely be an amazing piece of work. Mr. Hanyu and Mr. Mika are active on the front lines. We were worried about whether we would be able to accommodate the schedules of the two, who are both busy, but thanks to the help of both of them and the various parties involved, the re-performance of "Blue Rose" was made possible.
