Japanese team leads the future of robotics competition with shining results at "WRO 2024 Turkey International Competition" Japanese team achieved
great results in one of the world's largest robotics competitions with over 2,000 participants from 87 countries and regions!

"WRO (World Robot Olympiad)" is an international robotics competition held every year around the world with the aim of fostering children's creativity and problem-solving skills. This year's competition was held in Izmir, Republic of Turkey for three days from November 28th to 30th, 2024, with approximately 2,000 participants from 87 countries and regions. Among approximately 600 teams from all over the world, 14 teams from Japan participated, and high school teams won gold and bronze medals. Furthermore, four teams, including junior high school students, achieved outstanding results by finishing in the top eight.

Japanese team's great achievements at the 2024 Türkiye Games

In this tournament, the Japanese team performed very well as shown below. In particular, Ehime Prefecture's high school team ``YTHS 2BY'' won a gold medal in the senior category of the ``ROBOMISSION'' category, which competes for autonomous robot abilities. Meiden from Aichi Prefecture also won a bronze medal, demonstrating the ability of the Japanese team to be recognized around the world.

History of WRO and efforts in Japan

WRO began in 2004 with the first competition hosted by the Singapore Science Center. Today, it has grown into a major event that attracts more than 75,000 elementary, junior high, and high school students from around 90 countries and regions around the world.

In Japan, WRO Japan was established in 2004 against the backdrop of making programming education compulsory and promoting STEM education. Regional qualifying rounds are held across the country, and every year many children take on the challenge of competing in the international tournament. Through more than 20 years of collaboration between industry, academia, and government, we are contributing to the development of human resources who will lead the next generation of science and technology.

Factors supporting the results of the Japanese team

Behind the success of the Japanese team this time is the improvement of teamwork through daily programming education and PBL (Project Based Learning). Additionally, WRO provides the perfect platform to hone problem-solving skills from a global perspective.
