Announcement of the end of the tourism attraction project "Sublimation -shouka-Ouchi Culture" at the end of renovation of the five-story pagoda of Horurikoji Temple
The tourism attraction project "Shouka-Ouchi Bunka," which was carried out by Yamaguchi City, was brought to the full renovation of the National Treasure Rurikoji five-story pagoda, will end on March 31, 2025.
This project carried out with the aim of bringing the historical value of the five-story pagoda of Rurikoji, the National Treasure, to the full renovation of the five-story pagoda in about 70 years, and to promote tourist attractions to Koyama Park, where the five-story pagoda is located .
"Sublimation -shouka-Ouchi Culture" initiatives

This project has been set in Koyama Park, featuring spatial art exhibitions and projection mapping, providing many visitors with the opportunity to experience the charm of the Ouchi culture and the national treasure Rurikoji five-story pagoda.
Additionally, Yamaguchi City was selected as one of the 52 places to visit in 2024 by the New York Times, attracting attention from both domestic and international perspectives.
Progress of renovation work and future schedule

The renovation work, including a complete replacement of the hiwada-buki roof, is approaching the end of the process. The scaffolding sheets for construction were removed in early February 2025, and the removal of steel scaffolding is currently underway. All the steel frames from the scaffolding will be removed in July 2025, and the majestic national treasure, Rurikoji, will reappear.
Furthermore, the restoration of the surrounding trees and pavement will be completed in March 2026, and all renovation work is expected to be completed.
