Promote SDGs and aim for zero waste!
Space Co., Ltd. recycles interior materials when tenants leave the store
Upcycle the items left behind when a tenant leaves the store into new fixtures
Space Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Yasuhiro Sasaki) is working to reduce environmental impact by building a recycling cycle to solve the problem of disposing of interior materials when tenants leave commercial facilities. I'm here. As a first step, we reused wall decorations, shelves, etc. from tenants who had left the store and upcycled them into new fixtures at Morella Gifu, a shopping mall in Motosu City, Gifu Prefecture. These fixtures were installed through Prime Place Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Takashi Kawamura), the management company for Morella Gifu.
overview
This initiative was made possible by a proposal from our company's Reproduct Promotion Office (hereinafter referred to as Repro). With the renovation of Morella Gifu in the spring of 2024, interior materials collected from multiple tenants that have left the store will be upcycled into repro fixtures. At our company's factory in Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture, we processed collected wall decorations, shelves, and other items and transformed them into planter covers and sign stands. These fixtures have been installed in the common area on the first floor of Morella Gifu, supporting the realization of a ``commercial facility where you can experience the SDGs''.
background
According to the Ministry of the Environment, Japan's total industrial waste emissions in FY2021 amounted to approximately 376 million tons, of which approximately 20% was generated by the construction industry*. This includes large amounts of waste from apparel shops, restaurants, and other tenants leaving their stores, and a solution is needed. In response to this issue, our company, which creates a variety of spaces in commercial facilities, has begun initiatives aimed at reducing waste.

Future outlook
Starting with this initiative, we aim to establish a recycling cycle for interior materials that are left behind or discarded. In the future, we will expand the range of collection locations and promote the creation of reproducible spaces that do not throw away in the various spaces we work on, thereby contributing to the realization of a prosperous society.
About the Reproduct Promotion Office
The Reproduct Promotion Office was established at the suggestion of our employees, based on our corporate philosophy of "contributing to the realization of a prosperous society through the creation of commercial spaces." The name comes from the words "Re=review" and "Product=our manufacturing." We are reviewing the scrap-and-build approach in the display industry and promoting the creation of spaces that don't get thrown away, exploring the ideal form.
