About Goto City
Goto City is located in the western part of Nagasaki Prefecture is a city that occupies the southwestern part of the Goto Islands It is located about 100 kilometers from Nagasaki Port and consists of 10 inhabited islands and 53 uninhabited islands
Geography
Goto City spreads to the southwest of the Goto Islands, which float in the East China Sea in the west of Kyushu, and includes Nakadori Island and Naru Island, mainly around Fukue Island. It has a warm marine climate and features beautiful coastlines and rias coasts, with fishing and tourism as the main industries.
history
According to legend in the Hizen Country Fudoki are called Chikanoshima, and it is said that during Emperor Keigyo's tour of Chikushi, there were "Tsugou," the large and swallow ears. Kashiwazaki on Fukue Island is also known as the last anchorage before the envoys to Tang China crossed the East China Sea.
From the Middle Ages onwards, it developed as a key point for trade and shipping, and was under the control of the Goto Domain during the Edo period. From the Meiji period onwards, modernization progressed along with the development of fishing and commerce, and in 2004 Fukue City, Tomie Town, Tamanoura Town, Mitsui Rakucho, Kijuku Town, and Naru Town merged, and the current city of Goto was established.
