About the Financial Services Agency

The Financial Services Agency (FSA) is a Japanese government agency and is established with the aim of ensuring the stability and fair operation of financial markets. The Financial Services Agency's main role is to protect users of financial services, such as depositors, policyholders, and financial product investors, and to support the smooth operation of the financial system. The Financial Services Agency is located outside the Cabinet Office and implements legal regulations and supervision to stabilize financial functions and protect the trust of users.

The head of the Financial Services Agency is the "Committee of the Financial Services Agency", with the top positions being the Minister of Finance, Deputy Minister, and Parliamentary Vice-Minister of State. The Financial Services Agency may take administrative sanctions to financial institutions as necessary to protect users and ensure fair markets, but the purpose of this is not to dispose of them themselves, but to promote the improvement of the business of financial institutions. The goal is to achieve a more healthy operation.

The Financial Services Agency conducts strict supervision and coordination daily in accordance with laws and regulations to ensure the soundness of the financial system and to support the operation of transparent financial markets.
