About Manya Brewery Co., Ltd.
Manya Brewery Co., Ltd. is a historic sake manufacturer founded in 1790. The first head of the family, Manya Hachigoro, opened a storehouse in the present area, and developed in the Masuho area, which was a bustling logistics hub using the Fuji River in the late Edo period. It originally started out under the name "Ichiriki Masamune" and produced not only sake but also soy sauce, miso, mirin, and other ingredients. This will also contribute to the development of the local economy, allowing you to see how prosperous it was back then.
As times change, railways and roads have progressed, and Masuho's land has shifted from a logistics hub to a tourist destination. As a result, the sake name changed to "Shunuuuuuuu" and at the beginning of the Showa era it grew into a brewery that produced more than 700 stones (approximately 126mL) of sake per year, in addition to miso, soy sauce and mirin.
In 1933, when poet Yosano Tetsumiki and Akiko, who were close friends with the younger brother Nakagome Junji (French literature scholar), the sixth head of the family, stayed at our brewery, enjoyed the sake for the sake of the banquet and wrote numerous waka poets. Among them was a poem that was so moving that it seemed like he was visiting Horyuji Temple and other places, Nakagomi was deeply impressed and engraved the words on a stone monument and passed them on to future generations.
Currently, Manya Brewery Co., Ltd.'s main business is manufacturing and selling sake, and through the operation of the sake brewery gallery and Rokusai, it also contributes to the development of local culture. Our company, which continues to preserve the traditional taste along with its beautiful natural environment, is located in Aoyagicho, Fujikawacho, Minamikoma District, Yamanashi Prefecture.
