Shonai Bank, Ltd. is a regional bank with its head office in Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture. The store operates in all of Yamagata Prefecture, as well as in Miyagi, Fukushima Prefecture, and Tokyo, with a focus on the Shonai region. It is a designated financial institution in Tsuruoka City and Sakata City, and is under the umbrella of Fidea Holdings along with Kitato Bank, which is based in Akita Prefecture. History
The predecessor of Shonai Bank was the 67th National Bank, and was established in 1941 through wartime integration. This has led to the only bank in Yamagata Prefecture, predecessored by a national bank.
On October 1, 2009, it merged with Kitato Bank and became a subsidiary of Fidea Holdings, a financial holding company system.
On January 25, 2024, Fidea Holdings announced that it was considering a merger between Kitato Bank and Shonai Bank during fiscal year 2026. In February of the same year, a Merger Preparation Committee was established to discuss the name of the new bank and the location of the main store.
On November 8, 2024, Fidea Holdings announced its policy on January 1, 2027 to merge Kitato Bank and Shonai Bank, making it the new bank, Fidea Bank. The main store will be located in the current Shonai Bank Yamagata Sales Department (Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture), and the current Shonai Bank Main Store (Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture) will be the Fidea Bank Tsuruoka Sales Department.
In addition, from April 1, 2025, the head of Kitato Bank and Shonai Bank will be both the president of the company, and on May 26, 2025, the head office will be moved from Tsuruoka City to Yamagata City, with the store name being changed from Yamagata Sales Department to Yamagata Main Store Sales Department and from the Head Office Sales Department to Tsuruoka Sales Department.
